How to Find Your Perfect Frame
A No Stress Guide to Face Shapes
By Leonela & Shanae | Sol & Kin
Okay real talk, buying sunglasses online is something many people prefer not too do.
You can't try them on, you can't see how they sit on your face, you're just adding to cart and hoping for the best. We get it because we've been there too (Leo & Shanae have ordered many a pair that turned up and we were worried they wouldnโt work on our face)
So we're doing what any good stylish friend would do and breaking it all down for you. Face shapes, frame styles, what works and what doesn't.ย
So? Let's go.
ย
First things first, how do I actually figure out my face shape?
Pull your hair back, stand in front of a mirror and have a look. You're looking at the overall shape of your face, the width of your forehead, your cheekbones, your jawline and how long your face is.
Don't overthink it. Most of us fall somewhere between shapes and that's completely fine. This is a guide.
The main face shapes are oval, round, square, heart and oblong (long). Find yourself below and we'll tell you exactly what to look for.
ย
Oval face, girl you can wear basically anything
Lucky you! Oval faces are balanced and slightly longer than they are wide with soft angles. If this is you, frames are your playground.Oversized, bold, coloured, retro all of it works. The DOMMER was literally made for oval faces. That slightly retro shape sits beautifully and the red colourway oh how amazing on an oval face.
The WILMA & ROGUE also look incredible here, t's one of the reasons Mumma Leo can't stop wearing hers.
What to go for: oversized frames, bold colours, any shape really. Have fun with it.
Round face, go angular, go bold
Round faces have soft curves with a width and length that are pretty similar. The trick here is to add some contrast, angular or geometric frames balance out the softness beautifully and give your face more definition.
Avoid frames that are too round or too small as they'll just echo the roundness rather than working with it.
What to go for: rectangular frames, angular shapes, wider frames that extend slightly beyond the face. From our range look at our MUSE, HALO, CELESTE & HAVANA sunglasses and bold colours work really well here too, a strong coloured frame draws attention in all the right ways.
ย
Square face, soften it up lovely
Strong jawline, defined angles, similar width from forehead to jaw, that's a square face. And honestly? Stunning. But the key is finding frames that soften those angles rather than compete with them.
Round and oval shaped frames are your best friends. Anything with curved edges will balance your features and create that effortless look. Oversized round frames are particularly gorgeous on a square face.
What to go for: round frames, oval frames, anything with soft curved edges. Steer clear of very boxy rectangular shapes that mirror your jawline.
Our AMAMAS, TIDE are a perfect balance ROGUE take the cake as well.
ย
Heart face, balance that beautiful forehead
Wider at the forehead, narrowing to a smaller chin, heart shaped faces are gorgeous and the goal is to balance the width at the top with some volume at the bottom of the frame.
Frames that are wider at the bottom or have a low bridge sit really well here. You want to draw the eye downward rather than across. Rimless or light frames also work really well as they don't add extra width at the top, we would be thinking MICRO sunglass for this type of face shape.
What to go for: bottom heavy frames, round or oval styles, wider frames. Avoid very top heavy designs or frames with a lot of embellishment at the temples.
ย
Oblong (long) face, go wide, go statement
Longer than it is wide with a long straight cheek line, an oblong face is all about adding width and breaking up the length. Oversized frames are your absolute best friend here. The wider and taller the frame the better.
This is honestly the face shape where you can go the most bold and statement. Big coloured frames, chunky acetate, anything oversized, go for it. You will wear it and it will look amazing.
What to go for: oversized frames, tall frames, bold shapes. The bigger the better honestly. Avoid narrow or small frames that will just emphasise the length.
This is our favourite face shape for our range WILMA, DOMMERS, MOTION, HAVANA our choices here at Sol & Kin are endless for this one.

Still not sure? Here's the thing
Most people are a mix of two shapes and that is completely normal. If you're still not sure our honest advice is to lean into what you're drawn to because confidence is the best accessory
And most importantly we love it when our customers slide into our DMs. We do this every day. You send us a photo, we'll tell you what we think will work. That "tell a friend" energy is not just a tagline, it's what we actually do.
We show our frames on as many different faces as possible because we believe there is a pair for every single person and we want you to find yours.
